How to Design a Custom T-Shirt: A Beginner's Guide

A custom t-shirt starts with one decision: what should the shirt say or show? Keep the idea short and readable. A name, a date, a logo or one clear illustration usually works better than a crowded composition, especially on a garment that moves and folds.

Next choose the garment, colour and size range. Print contrast matters: light artwork disappears on a white shirt, and dark artwork needs enough separation on a black one. Think about where the design sits too, because a chest print and a full back print need very different file sizes.

When the artwork is ready, send the file or a description to the print team before you order. They can confirm resolution, spelling and placement. Check the final wording yourself: names and dates are the details people notice first.
